I always take at least 4-6 units of archers that I run forward in almost every game. However, if you don't know you're facing this unit and just building a tournament list and then happen to face a death star.well, that's what chaff is for. At the same time, miasma can lower their movement down so that they can't get anywhere on the battlefield while you kill the rest of their army. Then the purple sun can take the unit off when their initiative is lowered down. Death snipe the caster with 2-3 snipe spells as well so they lose him which will take away their ward save on the following turn. Then just cast Miasma over and over again to lower their initiative and bowl purple sun's through the unit. Chaff up that unit with loads of 5 man archer units. If you know this is what you are facing, take a level 4 of death backed up by a few level 1's of shadow. A unit of 20 with perhaps "just" a 5++ isn't as scary or brutal by far. If you can save your dispel scroll for this magic phase before this charge, you can also dispel some spells. They need to be slowed down and diverted as much as possible, they need to be hit with whatever spells works despite the saves, one needs to train every gun and bow on them for as long as possible and only then double- or triple-charge with substantial forces.

You need to ensure that you don't start the stabbing and slashing when they're still in top fighting condition. I think it requires a lot more thought and a longer-term approach. I don't think "a horde of Halberds" is the answer, and I don't think it'd be enough to push 800 points into such a unit. If they start out with 60, they have 12 guys hitting back in round 2. In the subsequent round, WL kill 16 and the characters another 6.

Sure, the combo kills 11-12 Elves, which isn't too shabby, and the Halberdiers might be steadfast if they're big enough but they'd need to be at least 55-60 strong to get the full complement of attacks. The flankers would need a miracle to stay around. Anyone else run into this? Any way any unit (Empire or otherwise) could stop these guys?Īssuming the Elves have only a 4++ instead of 3++, no Giant Blade SoA character kills any Demis, the Halberdiers have hatred and all Empire forces are at +1 to hit, they are losing by -12, -14 including ranks, charge, flank and standards. His list/unit is similar to many others on the internet forums of High Elves and others. When I played against his list (with a fluffy WOC list), I completely curbed-stomped the rest of his force, but that one unit ate my army like an Ethiopian kid on a box of UNICEF.

I've personally seen this unit go through the best of an Ogre Kingdoms/Skaven/Warriors of Chaos list like Barristan Selmy could go through Joffery's King's Guard.

He basically one-dices all the augment spells, usually has at least a 4++ (most of the time a 3++) on his entire unit, and is Stubborn and Immune to Psych. Granted, this block runs about 1,400 points, but other than getting off an uber-spell (Dwellers/Pit of Shades/Final Transmutation), I can't think of a way to beat it. My buddy runs a 40-model block of White Lions with the Banner of the World Dragon to include a Lvl4 Archmage w/High Magic (4++ and Book of Hoeth), Anointed of Asuryan (Giantblade) and a BSB (Armor of Destiny).
